If you’d consider Korean isekai, there’s even more variety!

This chart is several years old and I’ve been in and out of the girlsekai community so I don’t have the freshest recs, but some others:

• What if you isekaied. What if you kept isekaing. What if you kept isekaiing the same exact year, as the same exact person, trapped in the same plot that would murder you (often brutally) on the exact same day? At some point you’d have to become a serial killer, right? Resetting Lady = Finally someone makes a girlsekai horror story
• What if (the above) except it was a silly comedy? If You Lay A Hand On My Brother, You’re All Dead
• Some moony-eyed girl keeps dying during a zombie apocalypse and initially thinks it’s some divine test of her devotion to her man. Except honestly. Is he worth this. Do I know this guy enough to warrant the trauma I’ve woken up to a thousand times. Survive Romance is shockingly more about friendship than anything
• The first few chapters of My Mom Entered a Contract Marriage - you are the abused daughter of a fallen villainess - once the hottest royal bitch in the kingdom, she’s now a commoner, an alcoholic, and extremely bitter. One day she wakes you up, screaming that she’s burning. She’s shocked you’re alive, sobbing and begging your forgiveness. Tbh this is one that’s more fun if you’ve read a lot of princess isekais, because fans will totally pick up on what happened, but her child cannot. Visual treat, I stopped reading because I don’t trust artists like this to last long. But what a starter it was!
• The Holy Grail of Eris - we need more Scarlet Castiels. Look at me when I talk to you, I don’t care if you don’t like me type princess. If only she could possess us all

please watch The Vision of Escaflowne anime if you want to actually get really mad at what happened to “isekai” as a story framing

this has to be one of the most beautiful anime openings I’ve ever seen, makes me want to tear up watching it. it’s a fantastic anime series with incredible visuals, great plot, fantastic worldbuilding, sadness and romance.

hell, even the 1985 OVA “Genmu Senki Leda”, as whatever as the writing and dialogue of the movie is, has extremely moving music and visuals that really want you to transport to another world for the beauty and fantasy of boundless imagination, and even then it criticizes the usage of fantasy as unhealthy escapism of the real world. Now these stories are more popular than ever and revels in cowardly escapism, boring worldbuilding, unimaginative designs, and childish power fantasies.

I live in South Africa. And if you live in South Africa and you have any contact with people from the US or Canada you might have run into a question about wildlife like lions and elephants roaming our streets. Most South Africans get pretty offended by questions like this. We are a civilized country, our large and dangerous wildlife gets contained in properly fenced parks. 

I use to get offended by this until I visited a few places in Canada and realized that the reason why you ask is that some of your large and dangerous wildlife does simply roam the countryside and sometimes make excursions into town.

This honestly blew my mind. What do you mean, you have bears just walking around? What the hell? 

north americans don’t all encounter deadly megafauna on our porches and front lawns but it happens often enough that we all think this is a reasonable amount of gigantic animal to happen to your house. so when we think of africa we kinda imagine it like this:

like. if we had elephants here. this is what we would be putting up with on the regular. what do you mean you guys are more sensible than us.

Few weeks ago there was a black bear casually roaming the suburbs with local news casually reporting on it, while surrounding cities were like “Hang on, there’s bears that close to DC?” Bear was caught and relocated. Casually.

The ones that really freak me out isn’t listed above: alligators and crocodiles.

There’s tons of them along significant stretches of the US and they just kinda… wander around sometimes.  And I mean, what are you going to do to stop them?  Put up a fence?
